This 15 year old Texas youth has lived all her life on a small ranch northeast of Fort Worth, Texas and is a true cowgirl with all the western trimmin’s! To the ethic of a good days’ hard work done well, she adds the abilities of a natural singer, musician and songwriter since she was just past toddler-hood. She discovered her true callin’ when she fell in love with Roy Rogers and Gene Autry movies. After she realized that western music and her cowboy heroes began to “call” her, she began to teach herself to play guitar along with her cowboy heroes, while matching their melodies in her "sweet lilting prairie soprano" (Devon Dawson).
She met Janet McBride, and the ‘yodeling queen’ was delighted to guide Miss Mikki into the fascinating world of American cowboy-style yodeling, finding in her a ready student. Ms. Janet brought her to the Buckaroo program at Cowtown Opry (see cowtownopry.org), where she met Devon Dawson. After about a year, Ms. Devon began working with her on her western swing/rhythm guitar. It wasn’t long before Mikki began delighting audiences as a performer with the Cowtown Opry in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Now, Mustang Mikki performs regularly for Cowtown Opry, chuck wagon dinners, western festivals, organizations, retirement centers, churches, schools, oprys and private parties.
In November 2011, she was the National GRAND PRIZE Winner to the national online singing video contest for the PBS documentary, Hayloft Gang: The National Barndance Radio Show (see hayloftgang.com). To see the full story, click on the "I Won" tab above.
In November 2010, she won the WMA 2010 Harmony Award with Cora Woods at the 2010 Western Music Festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico (see westernmusic.com).
As all good cowgirls should, she has carefully trained her golden-buttermilk palomino, Trigger, who is very proud to be Miss Mikki’s best friend. However, Trigger is a gaited Tennessee Walker and everyone knows that every true cowgirl has to own a Quarter Horse! Thanks to a dear friend (thank you, Lona!), Mikki also owns and trains her next best friend, a 5 year old Quarter Horse mare, Baby Sister.
